Cupping Therapy

Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapies

In a treatment along with Acupuncture, Jordan offers other Chinese Medicine treatment therapies such as Cupping, Moxibustion, Gua Sha, Electro Acupuncture, Tui Na Massage and Heat Lamp Therapy. All to aid with particular health conditions. Jordan may use these in your treatments depending on where it feels necessary to enhance Acupuncture treatment. Articular Acupuncture (ear acupuncture) may also be added. The NADA protocol is a type of articular Acupuncture used for conditions such as, mental or emotional health, trauma, addictions and chronic pain.

Jordan offers a 'Cupping only' service for those in Norwich, who want to try this type of therapy but wishes not to have Acupuncture.

Cupping

Cupping

Cupping therapy involves using either plastic cups with a pump or glass cups that create a vacuum to suck the skin. It can be moved about on the skin or placed stationary in specific points. It helps to stimulate the flow of qi, remove blockages, expel toxins in the body. It creates marks on the skin which can be seen as a purple or red circle. When the brain picks up signals of this minor injury, it triggers the body’s self-healing process, leading to an increase in blood circulation, improved lymphatic flow and the release of built up fluid. Cupping aids with pain in the neck, shoulders, lower back, legs, respiratory conditions, migraines, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and more.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion or 'moxa' is a therapeutic method of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves the use of a herb called mugwort which is burnt and applied either on top of an acupuncture needle, used in a stick for hovering over specific points or directly on the skin. It uses heat to stimulate these points to assist with Acupuncture. Moxa can also be used stand-alone for turning a breech presentation in pregnancy.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a therapeutic method of Traditional Chinese Medicine that works to improve circulation and blood flow using a massage tool called a ‘gua’. It can cause the appearance of purple or red spots known as ‘sha’. It addresses stagnant qi, blood and fluids within the body and move the body back to homeostasis. The benefits of gua sha include; chronic pain, neck, shoulders, joints, musculoskeletal conditions, inflammation, migraines, hot flushes and more.

Tui Na Massage

Added into an Acupuncture treatment, we may use Tui Na Massage. Tui Na (pronounced ‘twee na’) is a Chinese massage working with the qi. It is a very gentle massage that brings healing using the intention to bring qi to affected areas to create healing. It can help to clear blockages, remove stagnation allowing the blood to move more freely giving the body optimum chance of healing itself.

Heat Lamp Therapy

A TDP lamp may be added over affected areas whilst Acupuncture needles are in place. They warm the needles and the area to stimulate specific points. The heat can strengthen the qi, dispel cold and release stagnation. A TDP lamp helps to keep a cold patient warm, comfortable and assist in the Acupuncture treatment for all types of health issues.
